Virtual Goods? No Thanks

Dairy Disappointed
Sorry folks, I’m still not a believer. Well, in FarmVille that is. My experience with my Zynga Game Card cannot be described as a pleasant one. Better words could be annoying, stressful, and confusing. Not to be a “Debbie Downer,” but virtually milking cows and harvesting strawberries is not my cup of tea. However, let’s rewind a bit…

Milking my Mistake
First off, I was disappointed by the fact that I couldn’t split up my virtual credits over different games. If you’ve seen one of these Game Cards, then you know that the front advertises four different games. Apparently, this does not mean you can use this card for all of them, you just have to make up your mind and go with one. As previously mentioned, my game of choice was the ever popular FarmVille. Mistake number one.

Counrty Girl, Mooving On
As a girl who lives in the middle of nowhere, in a one traffic light town with almost as many cows as people, it may have been a smarter choice to go with CityVille or the one with aliens. I hopefully plan to one day leave my hometown and move on to greener pastures (pun intended). So, virtually choosing to pick a game where I embody a farmer was a decision that I should have predicted as a bit annoying.

Notifications Neigh
Next, since I am not a seasoned FarmVille player, I found the game confusing. I’ll admit, I played for maybe a week or so when I was a Facebook newbie, but soon dropped the habit. Since I haven’t logged on to my farm since, after two and a half years I found myself bombarded with notifications that I had no idea the meaning of. However, I tried to jump right back in the saddle, using my newly bought FarmCash to make some purchases. Just as it is in the real world, before I knew it, my cash was gone. I had bought some fuel, five farmhands, and a bunny pen. Apparently that’s all you get for $15.

Farewell FarmVille
In the end, all I was left with was a place for virtual bunnies (which I don’t even have), my animals all milked, brushed, and de-egged, and a feeling that I wasted both my time and money. After my experience with purchasing online game content, I can honestly say I am more against it than I was before. Sorry FarmVille lovers, the penny-pinching college chick in me won this round.
